A full-height turnstile is a high-security access control gate used to allow one person at a time to enter or exit a restricted area. It is commonly used at industrial plants, construction sites, stadiums, warehouses, and data centers.

Working of a Full-Height Turnstile

1. User Authentication

   • The user presents an access credential such as:

     • RFID card / smart card

     • Biometric (fingerprint / face)

     • QR code / barcode

     • PIN (if integrated)

2. Access Verification

   • The turnstile controller checks the credential with the access control system.

   • If the credential is valid, access is granted.

   • If invalid, the turnstile remains locked.

3. Unlocking Mechanism

   • On approval, the turnstile unlocks electronically.

   • The rotating arms are released for one full rotation only.

4. Controlled Rotation

   • The user pushes the arms and passes through.

   • The design ensures only one person can pass at a time (prevents tailgating).

5. Auto-Lock After Passage

   • After one complete rotation, the turnstile automatically locks again.

   • The system is ready for the next user.

6. Exit Operation

   • Exit can be:

     • Free exit (push to rotate), or

     • Controlled exit using card/biometric (as per site requirement)

7. Emergency / Power Failure Mode

   • In case of power failure or fire alarm:

     • Turnstile can switch to free-rotation mode, or

     • Remain locked with a mechanical emergency release (depends on configuration).
